Confessor is the first single off of Annuals‘ upcoming sophomore album Such Fun. The track is all that you might expect from previous Annuals experiences: layered orchestration supporting catchy indie-pop hooks and vocal harmonies. One thing that did catch me by surprise was the elegant bridge transition starting at 1:40. Jacquire King’s influence as producer has really stepped up Annuals’ game, musically. Confessor is available for purchase from Amazon on August 19th and Such Fun will debut on October 7th.

More from the great Annuals reincarnate band Sunfold… With guitarist Kenny Florence taking the frontman position, Sunfold is set to release their full length Toy Tugboat this week (July 22nd). I previously mentioned Annuals last November but I didn’t say much. Hopefully the music spoke for itself. At any rate, Annuals and Sunfold have a split EP Wet Zoo out today. I personally enjoyed the three track Annuals side, but in actuality Sunfold and Annuals are the same band (Pitchfork disambiguates the confusion). Overall, Just Stay In stuck out to me as noteworthy and exquisite. The noodling violin/cello orchestration is especially sublime. This fall, look for a full length from Annuals on their new label Canvasback Records. For more reading and available tunes Canvasback’s site is your fix.
